Olbia, re-thinking Nautical business: “The Blue Economy Goes green”

An event at the archaeological museum

A whole day to “re-think” nautical business and combine environment sustainability and economic development in the sea. 4 talks were held with national and international speakers and workshops reserved for professionals and qualified stakeholders “THE BLUE ECONOMY GOES GREEN: RE-THINK NAUTICAL BUSINESS” is the title of the event, promoted by the Regional Planning Center – Management Authority of the POR FESR Sardinia 2014-2020, which was held on Thursday 20 October, at 9 am, at the Archaeological Museum of Olbia.

Speakers were Giuseppe Fasolino (Regional Councilor for Planning, Budget, Credit and Territory Planning), Settimo Nizzi (Mayor of Olbia), Francesca Raimondi (Program Manager European Commission, DG REGIO), Massimo Deiana (President of the Port System Authority of the Sardinian Sea) and Massimo Temussi (Management Authority POR FESR Sardinia 2014-2020 – Director of the Regional Programming Center).

“Sardinia – sustained Giuseppe Fasolino – has all the credentials to become a European laboratory capable of identifying and promoting innovative policies on the green and digital transition of the nautical sector. This can have important repercussions on the development of a sector that is strategic for the island: the nautical sector, in fact, is a sector that deserves attention because it can produce concrete results in terms of employment for the benefit of the entire island economy”. According to Massimo Temussi “Sardinia can represent a world reference in boating while at the same time providing solutions that respect the sea and the environment. Currently the impact of the sector on our GDP is relative because, despite the presence, we are unable to create a true system of the sector and to fully benefit from the opportunities. In a logic of sustainable development of the island, we intend to plan innovative projects that affect the entire supply chain of the sea economy, fielding the considerable opportunities offered by the 2021-2027 programming”.

An entire day took place in Olbia with the aim of “re-thinking” boating and combining environmental sustainability and economic development in the sea. A look at the future possibilities of development between innovative and electric boating, ports and services, tourism and new skills for the sector. And these were precisely the themes of the 4 talks conducted by nautical journalists Angelo Colombo and Andrea Bergamini who saw authoritative national and international speakers alternating throughout the morning, leading experts from numerous European countries.

The event aims to involve the entrepreneurial system and regional institutions that operate within the marine economy chain in a moment of discussion and reflection on the green and digital transition of the nautical business that will be determinating the development of production activities in the next years. The public part was followed in the afternoon by a workshop activity with the support of expert facilitators reserved for a small group of qualified stakeholders. Partners of the initiative are the Municipality of Olbia and Assonautica.
